Happy Holiday Time!

Ok, I’ve been a terrible, bad, awful blogger. In my defense, the past couple of months have been absolutely crazy (and I’ve been less than inspired. First off, I officially launched my event planning company, Curry Kay Events,  here. That has taken a good deal of my time as I’ve been working on building that up and preparing for a tv segment as their “expert party planner” (I was so nervous!).

Secondly, it’s the holiday season which means lots of holiday orders (yay!) and craft fairs which have kept me in the studio late into the night.

But my last craft fair is done and I’m now in full holiday mode! Here’s a quick peek at last weekend’s craft fair. (Thanks to all of you who stopped by!)

I was chock full of everything, including some items not listed in my shop yet. Unfortunately that doorway you see on the right side of the photo was the entrance to the men’s bathroom AND the show hosts overbooked and stuck somebody’s table half way in there (not cool).

Here’s another apron pic (I’m enamored with this one for some reason…)

I promise to be back more frequently in the next few weeks with some decor how-tos (tinsel wreaths and paper flowers and crystal snow drops- oh my!), cookie and cheesecakes baking adventure (I’ve added chocolate-whiskey and butter pecan cheesecakes to my arsenal), and any other holiday goodies I can come up with.

Thanks for being patient while I was gone!

Lovely Fair!

Hi All,

Just got back from a wonderful fall craft fair at a church in my town. I met some wonderful people and talented artists.

If you are arriving at this blog from my business card please be sure to check out my Etsy Shop.

Have a wonderful fall weekend!

Chalkbaords: Eating and Entertaining

So on Monday I gave you the brief history of my love affair with chalkboards, especially oversized chalkboards hung prominently on a wall in my living room. I’m aware this is not everyone’s style. My husband’s still on the fence on whether or not it’s his style (which is kind of too bad for him at this point, because our 3′ x 5′ chalkboard is nearly finished). Luckily for all of us there a million different ways to use chalkboards thanks to a little thing we call Chalkboard paint!

Of course, leave it to the wonderful world of Etsy to showcase all these options. If you type in “chalkboard” to the handmade search on Etsy you get over 3,000 products. 3,000! However to narrow it down? Today’s spotlight is on all the wonderful eating and entertaining uses for chalkboard. With all the holidays coming up these little items would make great hostess gifts or unexpected surprises for your guests!

Something Lovely: Chalkboard Week

That’s right… chalkboard WEEK! Every post this week will have a little something to do with chalkboards… why you ask? Because I have a partially finished 3′ x 5′ chalkboard on my living room wall that’s inspiring me today.

To start Monday off right I wanted to find you an inspirational/funny/pull at the heart strings quote about Chalkboards. Maybe something about how they can be erased clean and you can start over whenever you want, or some famous person’s memories about learning on a chalkboard, or even something about why chalkboards are so popular right now.

Instead my search only came up with this quote from Iggy Pop “I like music that’s more offensive. I like it to sound like nails on a blackboard, get me wild.” Not exactly what I had in mind… So instead I offer you some products from Etsy Seller Chalkboardwisdom whose prints echo what I hope to put on my living room wall!

Compared to Iggy Pop, I have a much more pleasant thoughts when I think about chalkboards. My dad always managed to find some when he was doing salvage work and I spent hours teaching my little siblings with a huge green chalkboard that made it’s way from our garage to our basement. I loved that thing and think I even asked for one of those special chalkholders that keep your fingers clean for my birthday one year. My dad now has one in his living room that offers drawings from my little brothers or a “Happy Thanksgiving” or “Merry Christmas” at appropriate times of year. As someone who loves words and quotes and but likes change, a chalkboard is perfect for me!

And of course, chalkboards are making a comeback. In the era of powerpoint and smarboards (even overhead projectors and transparencies are out of date) I think people like the old school-ness of a classic chalkboard (at least I know I do, and that’s why I painted it on my wall!).

So this post is little more than an intro to a week full of chalkboard-y goodies! Now I think my wall chalkboard is ready for another coat of paint so I’m off!
