Something Lovely for Baking… Squirrels

About 6 years ago my family adopted a squirrel for a day. It was Mother’s Day and we were working outside in my Mom’s garden. We watched as a few squirrels chased each other around with another tiny squirrel following a few steps behind. My mom told us that she had been watching him for a few days and the rest of his brood was clearly trying to leave him behind. To prove that he was not quite up to living the wild life the squirrel ran right up to us and sat at our feet. For the rest of the day he was our little buddy. He ran into the badminton court while we were in the middle of our game, climbed into the wheelbarrow while we were pouring gravel (clearly this squirrel had a death wish), let us hold him and then fell asleep in the hood of my sweatshirt (for the life of me I can’t remember how he got there or why I thought this was a good idea). We nicknamed the little guy Charlie. However, at the end of the day little Charlie called it quits and we tearfully buried him in the backyard.

Because of Charlie I’ve always had a soft spot for squirrels. Much to my delight I found that the baking world shares my affinity!

What little woodland critter would you prefer for your baking creations?
